JMP Marks a Milestone
This October, JMP is celebrating its 20th anniversary. JMP software has been busy since its first release in 1989. It maintains an active presence in a variety of industries, helping customers succeed. JMP users have improved aerospace engineering designs, produced quality pharmaceuticals, protected coral reefs off the Florida coast, enhanced open-wheel racing, manufactured high-end guitar strings and bottled fine wine. That's a lot of action to pack into two decades. John Sall, Executive Vice President of SAS, and members of the JMP team worldwide say thank you to customers for making JMP a success.READ MORE Chronicling Chicago 2009 More than 200 attendees convened at the Swissôtel Chicago this September for Discovery 2009 and the Innovators' Summit. They heard keynote speaker Malcolm Gladwell, author of three No. 1 international best-sellers, including The Tipping Point and Blink, and left with an autographed copy of his latest book, Outliers. They dined at the Chicago Botanic Garden and held fascinating conversations with some of the world's foremost analytic movers and shakers. They swapped best practices, shared proven statistical techniques and networked with other JMP users.READ MORE Follow John Sall's Executive Blog bLog-Normal Distribution. It is a probability distribution of a random variable whose logarithm is normally distributed. It is also the name of John Sall's new blog. Read the analytic lessons and random observations made by the Co-Founder and Executive Vice President of SAS. Check out his series of posts called "Goldilocks and the Negative R-Square."READ MORE Explorers Series Charts New Territories Navigate the business terrain with guidance from the Explorers Series in Houston; Hartford, CT; and Philadelphia. And the series is expanding its horizons. On Nov. 10, the SAS United Kingdom headquarters in Marlow, UK, will host a seminar featuring Stephen Few, Principal of Perceptual Edge. Few will discuss predictive analytics and data visualization.READ MORE A Full Fall for JMP® Users JMP users across the nation are actively engaging in collaborative learning and leadership. This month, users from Seattle, Boston, Atlanta, southern California and central Ohio will delve into dialogue about JMP 8 best practices, pool their knowledge and experiences, and network with peers. The groups, old and new, are established to support users of JMP and JMP Genomics along the way to analytic proficiency.READ MORE Research Team Fights MS with JMP® Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex autoimmune disease of the nervous system that can be difficult to diagnose. Although there is no known cure, treatment may return functions after an MS attack, prevent new attacks and prevent disability. Because current diagnostic procedures for MS are cumbersome, invasive and expensive, a non-invasive serum diagnostic test is desirable. Using JMP for design of experiments and data analysis, researchers at Bayhill Therapeutics and Applied Microarrays Inc. have taken a major step toward that goal. This white paper describes the project.READ MORE Presenting: On-Demand Webcasts JMP features a number of Webcasts for a wide variety of viewer interests. You can get started with JMP, see what's new in JMP Genomics, explore reliability, learn about design of experiments, unleash the potential of data visualization, discover data mining or apply JMP to academic work. Headliners include Dick De Veaux, Stephen Few, Bill Meeker and Lou Valente. Watch any or all of the Webcasts on demand.
READ MORE JMP® Scripting Made Easy Want to automate JMP analyses that you perform routinely? Need a way to customize your JMP reports? Learn best from examples? A new book by Wendy Murphrey and Rosemary Lucas, two members of the JMP Technical Support team, will give you a good start. Jump Into JMP® Scripting is for those unfamiliar with JMP Scripting Language (JSL) and heavy programming. Part 1 walks you through short tutorials to learn practical scripting basics. Part 2 teaches you to write 60 short scripts.READ MORE New Book Uses Real-World Applications Analyzing and Interpreting Continuous Data Using JMP: A Step-by-Step Guide uses case studies to show how to solve common problems faced by engineers and scientists. Authors José and Brenda Ramírez set up each problem, explain how data was collected, show analysis using JMP, interpret the output, draw conclusions and make recommendations. The authors demystify concepts like p-values, confidence level, tests of significance, and the difference between the null (H0) and alternative hypothesis (H1).READ MORE Students Find Common Ground with JMP® For Arif Ansari, Assistant Professor at the USC Marshall School of Business, the interactive visualization capabilities of JMP make it the ideal platform for a meeting of minds - a stage on which scholars from distinctly different disciplines get an interdisciplinary perspective on data mining and analysis. Dr. Ansari uses JMP to teach applied statistics and data mining to MBA and computer science students, as well as to those with a strong statistical background. Additionally, he and the students use JMP in research projects for businesses.
